What are wedding sparklers used for?
Sparklers are all about creating a moment. Couples typically use them to:
Add a little wow-factor
Create beautiful, glowy photos
Get guests involved in something fun
End the night with a memorable send-off
They’re simple, effective and always a major crowd pleaser.
When is the best time to use sparklers at your wedding?
Timing is everything when it comes to sparklers.
The sweet spot is:
Just after sunset for soft, flattering light
Twilight for that dreamy, romantic vibe
Later in the evening for something more dramatic
At Birtsmorton Court, lots of couples choose to do this after their first dance or inbetween band sets.
Always best to make sure your photographer is still on site too for those perfect photos!
What type of sparklers should you use for a wedding?
Not all sparklers are created equal—trust us on this one.
Go for:
🎇 40-50cm sparklers (these last longest!)
They’ll give you around 3-4 minutes, which is plenty of time for photos and for everyone to enjoy the moment.
Short sparklers might seem cheaper, but they burn out quickly, can feel rushed and the often the first sparklers are going out by the time the last are lit.
🎇 Gold-toned sparklers perfect for that dewy glow
🎇 Low-smoke options work best in your photos
Are sparklers safe at weddings?
Yes—as long as they’re used properly.
A few simple tips:
Have buckets of sand ready for sparklers to be extinguished safely at the end
Ask guests to hold sparklers at arm’s length
Keep an eye on little ones
At Birtsmorton Court, our team will always help you plan this safely so you can just enjoy it.
Can you use sparklers at Birtsmorton Court?
Yes—you can absolutely include sparklers as part of your wedding here.
Our team will help you:
Choose the best locations

How do we organise your sparkler moment?
A little planning goes a long way here.
The Birtsmorton team will manage this for you. Your guests will stand in two lines or in a circle around you, and the sparklers will be handed out.
We will go down the line lighting sparklers, suggesting guests use the lit sparklers to light the unlit ones around them. This will ensure all guests sparklers are lit at the same time.
We will also make sure your photographer is ready and waiting!
When it’s organised well, it feels effortless and stress-free.
